An exhibition of paintings by Karen Ackoff is on view at South Suburban College – The Southland Journal

An exhibition of Karen Ackoff paintings is on view at South Suburban College (South Holland, IL) – The South Suburban College (SSC) Art & Design Department is pleased to announce a special guest artist exhibition titled “Murmurations” by Karen Ackoff. The photos will appear in the Photo Four Gallery below SSC from Tuesday, October 18 to Thursday, November 17, 2022. On Monday, October 24, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., the SSC will host an artist talk at the Photo Four Gallery on the fourth floor of the college.

Ackoff explained, “When large numbers of birds fly together, they whirl in a repeating, coordinating, changing pattern. “Shells”, derived from the sound of wings, are produced when birds flap together. My work speaks through a network of small brushstrokes like a murmur. Together they form shapes and shadows that gradually unfold as a painting develops. My work whispers – it does not shout. My drawings are finished with care and control. Yet they are not without passion. The passion is in every object – its shape, subtle color and tonality. In the stories, the object tells how brushes or silver move across the surface of the floor. Tease out inherent beauty with focus and patience, I whisper back.”
