Potlatch Committee is looking for volunteers for the 2022 event
The Potlatch Committee is looking for committed volunteers who can help plan the 2022 festival.
Anyone interested in joining the Potlatch Committee should attend its monthly meeting, which takes place on the first Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at Carthage City Hall, 812 W. Panola St.
Gary Trade Day is Saturday October 9th
Gary will be hosting his community-wide trading day at Bird Park on Saturday, October 9th.
Dealers can register at Gary Town Hall. The fees are $ 10 for a 10-foot by 10-foot area or $ 20 for a 10-by-20-foot area. Cash only.
Rotary Club Launches Fire Hydrant Painting Project
The Rotary Club of Carthage, together with the Carthage Fire Department, has started a charitable project to take over and repaint local hydrants.
Once registered and approved, volunteers will be provided with instructions, materials, and paint.
Calvary Boys perform at the October Hymn Sing
The Calvary Boys will perform at the First Baptist Church in Carthage on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. as part of a special October hymn.
Mac & Cheese Drive in aid of the Carthage Mission
Texas Home Health and the Carthage Healthcare Center are jointly holding a macaroni and cheese campaign for the benefit of the Carthage Mission.
The groups will collect macaroni in cardboard boxes between October 4th and November 1st to help needy families ahead of the upcoming holidays.

Cowboy Carnival is in Still Waters on October 27th
Still Waters Cowboy Church is holding their annual Cowboy Carnival on Wednesday, October 27th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Church, 1699 Texas 315 in Carthage.
The family-friendly festival includes free hot dogs and nachos, games, pony rides, and a costume contest for children ages 2-18.
Under the Harvest Moon Carnival is October 30th
The Beckville ISD Education Foundation is holding their 10th annual Under the Harvest Moon Mardi Gras on Saturday, October 30th from 5pm to 9pm at Beckville Football Stadium.
This family-friendly event includes games and activities for all ages.
Halloween in the square is October 31st
Halloween on the Square on Carthage Main Street returns after taking hiatus last year due to COVID-19.
This will be her eighth Halloween in the square, said Cindy Deloney, manager of Carthage Main Street. It’s Sunday, October 31st, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Deloney said all businesses around the square as well as other businesses in town will attend.

Cedar Grove hosts Wild West Fall Fest
A Wild West Fall Fest will be held at Cedar Grove Baptist Church at 108 1050 County Road in Carthage on October 31st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
VFW sponsors a student essay competition
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5620 is again sponsoring two junior essay competitions in Panola County Grades 6-12. Local winners receive cash prizes and move up to thousands of dollars in scholarship prizes in district and state competitions.
The Voice of Democracy competition is open to students in grades 9 to 12 who are writing an essay on a patriotic topic and recording it on a CD or USB stick. The national winners will be given a trip to Washington DC to compete at the national level. The national winner will receive a US $ 30,000 scholarship.
The Patriot’s Pen competition is open to students in grades 6 through 8. Students express their opinion on a patriotic issue in a written essay. The state winners will compete for a total of $ 91,000 in U.S. savings bonds, with the national winner receiving an award of $ 5,000.
Registrations for both competitions are available by contacting competition chairman John Foster at (903) 693-8607. The competition is open to all public school, private school, and home-schooled students who are encouraged to participate. The closing date for both competitions is October 31st.
Carthage Christmas Parade announced
The Panola County Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 75th Annual Christmas Parade will take place on Monday, December 6th at 7pm
This year’s theme is “The Best Christmas Parade Ever” in honor of the 75th anniversary.
Parade participants can choose their own theme from a list of previous themes from previous years. Applications are available by calling the Panola County Chamber of Commerce at (903) 693-6634 or on the chamber’s Facebook page.
