When he was appointed general manager of the Hotel Revival, a 107-room boutique hotel in the Mount Vernon neighborhood three years ago, Donte Johnson brought with him nearly 20 years of hospitality experience.
He began his career at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in San Francisco in 2001 and has since held a variety of positions including concierge, director of guest services, area revenue manager, assistant general manager and general manager. In 2009, Johnson became the youngest employee ever promoted to general manager of Kimpton Hotels.
Before coming to Baltimore, Johnson was both the director and general manager of the Riggs Hotel Washington, DC, an independent hotel.
In 2011, he was named to the Washington Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” list, which recognizes outstanding industry figures who have worked in the DC area. Located in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon neighborhood — less than a mile from the Inner Harbor and an easy walk from local restaurants, parks, and art galleries — the Revival Baltimore describes itself as an “art-centric boutique hotel.”
The hotel is deeply involved in the regeneration of the region and showcases Mount Vernon’s artistic and cultural history by showcasing local artists and craftsmen and local cuisine in its restaurants and market.
In 2020, Johnson was appointed to the Board of Directors of Visit Baltimore, the city’s destination marketing organization.
“When companies unite for the common good, we all have the ability to rise and thrive,” he said at the time. “I am delighted to join Baltimore as the newest member of the Visit Baltimore Board of Directors and look forward to working with and for businesses and the surrounding community.”
