The exhibition, which runs until March 1 at the Petitpren Gallery, will be judged by local artist Jeanne Bieri. Bieri earned her MFA in painting from Wayne State University and later taught at the University of Michigan Dearborn, Wayne State University, and Henry Ford Community College, and has exhibited her work throughout Michigan and the Midwest. She maintains a studio in Detroit, as she has for over 30 years.

“When I think of ‘flora and fauna,’ I think of the world around me, how living things must continue to adapt to survive and how living things interact and depend on one another,” Bieri said in a press release for the exhibition. “It’s about growth and decay, and we’re all part of this world, so we need to preserve that fragile beauty.”

A variety of flora and fauna themed media was submitted by members of five local artist groups including the Lakeside Palette Club of St Clair Shores, the Mount Clemens Art Association, the Romeo Guild of Art, the Shelby Township Fine Art Society, and the Warren Tri-County Fine Arts Association, Inc. New and existing members of each group were allowed to submit up to two artworks for judging. The first place winner will receive a cash prize of US$150 and second and third place winners will receive US$100 and US$75 respectively. There will also be three honorable mentions with a cash prize of $25.

A virtual announcement of the awards is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. via Facebook Live at facebook.com/AntonArtCenter. For more information about the Anton Art Center, visit theartcenter.org or call 586-469-8666.
