Haliburton School of Art + Design Faculty Art Auction Goes Live!

By Jerelyn Craden

Great news for art lovers! After being suspended for two years due to the pandemic, the annual Fleming College Haliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) Faculty Art Auction fundraiser is now back online for the first time.
“We are very pleased to be back,” said Drew Van Parys, executive vice president of finance and administrative services. “The art auction is now in a new online format and is going well. There are many bids and currently 58 pieces are available. This number will increase as we add more parts. And we are very grateful for the support of our faculty and our sponsors. The financial support for art students through this auction is critical to their success.”
Typically, proceeds from the auction will support 30 grants ranging from $500 to $800.
“If we can do that again,” said Van Parys, “we will be very happy. That’s a lot of money for students who are constantly facing financial challenges, so it’s really important and really important to each and every student, and we’re excited about that.”

Join the fun of viewing and bidding on these special faculty-created artworks now through August 9 at 8pm at www.32auctions.com/HSAD_art_auction2022. Participating artists include Helen McCusker, Rose Pearson, Rob Stimpson, Susan Watson-Ellis and Todd Jeffrey Ellis, among others.
“I am thrilled to be able to support our students along with my faculty colleagues,” said Luke Despatie, artist and faculty member. “At the same time, it’s great to be able to showcase some of the incredible talent we have on the Haliburton campus.”
And it doesn’t stop there.
On August 11, Fleming College will host an in-person meeting on the Haliburton campus from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that will include a cocktail reception, a special silent auction and an art exhibit, Flourishing, in the Great Hall. This free evening is an opportunity for college staff and students to reconnect with the Haliburton community.
“We want as many people from the community to come and visit us in person. It will be a great opportunity to gather and share passion for art,” said Van Parys.
