After the neon watercolor madness of Manic, Halsey enters a whole new era of art with her fourth studio album. If I can’t have love, I want power. Abbreviated as IICHLIWP, the new album – produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – is an examination of pregnancy and childbirth, which makes it fitting that the cover recorded by Luca Garrido depicts the expectant mother as a combination of “the Madonna and the Wh * re” questions the idea that women should be perceived as either holy virgins or sexual deviants. On July 7th, Halsey unveiled the stunning Renaissance-style artwork of her with a baby on her lap on a gilded throne at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. What has Halsey been up to since Manic was released?
Since the release of their third studio album Manic, on Jan 17th, 2020, Halsey has addressed her artistic side in more than one way. On November 10, 2020, Halsey published a book of poetry entitled I would leave if I couldexploring topics such as mental health, sexuality, relationships, longing, and love. The book debuted on The New York Times Best seller list and the cover shows an original artwork by Halsey called “American Woman”.
To further explore her artistic side, Halsey launched the “Multi-Dimension Makeup Brand For All” on January 25th, which celebrates the beauty and diversity of people. Two days later, the singer announced her pregnancy in a series of photos on Instagram entitled “Surprise! ð¼ðð¼ð».” As part of the announcement, she tagged her boyfriend, screenwriter Alev Aydin, who commented, “Heart so full, I love you, honey â¤ï¸â¤ï¸” to which Halsey replied, “I love you !!!!! And I already love the mini-human! “Since sharing the news of her pregnancy, Halsey has not been afraid to post photos of her pregnant belly at all stages to showcase the beauty of motherhood, a topic that is her new Album inspired.
What is Halsey’s fourth studio album about?
A true celebration of motherhood, says Halsey If I can’t have love, I want power as a “concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth”. In a July 7 Instagram caption, Halsey continued, âIt was very important to me that the cover should convey the feel of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and Wh * re a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift for my child are two concepts that can coexist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways in recent years, and this image is my means to recapture my autonomy and my pride and my strength as a life force for my human being. “
The mother-to-be added that the cover is meant to celebrate the beauty of pregnant and postpartum bodies. “We still have a long way to go to remove the social stigma surrounding the body and breastfeeding,” she said. “I hope this can be a step in the right direction!”
When will Halsey be releasing her fourth album?
If I can’t have love, I want power will debut on August 27th, leaving just enough time to analyze the album art and any other clues as to what to expect from their new album.
