Julien’s Auction starts its first non-auction exhibition next week with more than 50 original works including collaborations between musicians like Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison and some of the most renowned contemporary artists of our time.
The sales exhibition entitled “Degrees of Separation” will take place from June 25th to 30th in the galleries of the Beverly Hills auction house and on its online portal.
Of particular note is a butterfly painting that graffiti artist RISK (born Kelly Graval) and Billy Morrison, a British visual artist and guitarist for Billy Idol and The Cult, created exclusively for the exhibition.
The large-format butterfly features wings with images of the Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack flags. It was created on the premises of Risk Rock Studios, an important creative center for Southern California, comparable to Andy Warhol’s “Factory” in New York.
“Both RISK and I have painted the picture of a butterfly in the past to signal change and rebirth,” Morrison said in a statement. “When it came time to work together on a piece for Degrees of Separation, that picture seemed perfect.”
Another highlight is a collaboration between Dave Navarro – founding member of Jane’s Addiction and former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers – and the Los Angeles-based street artist PADHiA.
The installation, Duel diagnosis, has a huge, deconstructed cuckoo clock that houses works of art created exclusively for the exhibition.
Artists like RISK and Morrison will perform on June 26th, signing limited edition pieces. Before the public exhibition on June 25, the auction house will also hold a VIP and red carpet reception on June 24.
