“At the base of Pikes Peak is the small town of Manitou Springs, a resort town since the region’s mineral-rich waters were discovered in the 1870s. The small city center is full of art galleries and eclectic boutiques. The Manitou Art Center offers a maker space for digital artists and offers courses in traditional and non-conventional visual arts. “

The ranking was announced on June 7th.

“Our local artists, galleries, and boutiques make Manitou Springs the energetic, amazing place it is,” said Manitou Springs Mayor John Graham. “We thrive on the vitality you bring to our community and look forward to your future involvement with Manitou Springs.”

The final ranking was determined by a referendum that placed Manitou Springs as the ninth best small-town arts scene in America, just after Taos, New Mexico and West Rutland, Vermont. Manitou Springs was the only Colorado locale recognized on the list.

“We are honored that our community is recognized for the quality of the art experiences we offer residents and visitors alike,” said Becca Sickbert, executive director of Manitou Springs Creative District. “The creative district exists because of its commitment to developing an outstanding place to live and create in 2021 and beyond.”

Manitou Springs has grown as an artist community since the city was founded nearly 150 years ago.

Painters, potters and makers are drawn to this unique part of the country for the creative inspiration that the natural beauty and rich cultural traditions of the Pikes Peak region offer.

“The arts are ingrained in Manitou Springs’ legacy and artists continue to flock to the area for creative inspiration,” said Leslie Lewis, executive director of the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce. “We are delighted to have recognized the galleries, performing artists, and boutiques that still thrive here today. Art was and always will be an important part of our local community and we are very grateful that these artists call Manitou Springs home. ”
