SUMMIT POINT – The South Jefferson Public Library will feature Kirsten Lee’s paintings in the Library Meeting Room starting today.

This exhibition is the 94th in the Art in the Library Series hosted by the library to highlight the talent of local artists. A reception will be held in the library boardroom on Sunday 11 September from 2pm to 4pm to give the public the opportunity to meet the artist.

Lee creates in photography, color and mixed media on her farm in wild, beautiful West Virginia. Their explorations share a search for “the soul of a space, the space of a soul” as opposed to stylistic homogeneity. This “soul” seems to shine best through photographs taken through a lens of ice, bold colors thrown by exuberant brushstrokes or spontaneous puns. She often combines media in unexpected, experimental ways.

Lee comes to art from an unconventional, self-determined background. A lifelong career training horses, tutoring their people, and tending to the land taught Lee observation, communication, and responsibility. These inform and are often central themes in her art. Her BS in Biology/Geology gave her an understanding of the natural world as it is – and as it could be. Her BA in Comparative Religion has trained her to honor the numinous and appreciate the human experience in unique ways.

She interprets environments and creates fresh images with an artist’s eye, a scientist’s mind and a poet’s heart, while sharing the experience with a teacher’s generosity.

Lee’s work is often featured in locally and nationally juried exhibitions, as well as in group and solo shows. Her two mosaic designs sparkle on the bridges of Evitt’s Run as anchors for a community art installation. Her ongoing project, Picture Wild Ponies, explores the management of wild horses on public lands by taking an artistic and literary look at the Assateague and Chincoteague pony herds. She is active in several art councils and art groups.

This art exhibition will be held at the South Jefferson Public Library, located at 49 Church St., Summit Point, through Monday, October 31st. The opening hours of the library are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed on Fridays; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m
