Spotlight of the week: Rileystreet Art Supply – Sonoma State Star

Rileystreet Art Supply is one of the most popular local locations for Sonoma State art students to purchase their art class materials. The store supports SSU students and local artists by offering a variety of discounted art supplies, selling handmade artwork, and offering personal art classes.

According to the Rileystreet website, their Santa Rosa location has been “voted Sonoma County’s Best Art Supply Store for the past 22 years.” The website states that the store “always has the largest selection of art supplies in the North Bay, many of which are discounted daily in retail stores. We have fantastic art classes in both stores, including free demos practically every weekend. In addition, all of our employees are practicing artists or have a degree in fine arts. “

Rileystreet offers SSU students a 10 percent discount and an annual two-month school sale in the fall where everything is discounted by 25 percent. This year’s sale started in the second week of August and will last until September 30th. Students must show their SSU ID and can bring an art class curriculum for help with obtaining the materials they need.

Diana Argueta, a Rileystreet employee and former SSU alumni student, said SSU students visit the store frequently: “An SSU student comes to the store almost every day, if not three times a week. Art students shop between classes year-round, and many of these students are enrolled in painting, drawing, and printing classes. ”

Argueta, who majored in photography in the art studio, shared her experience with the shop: “I started shopping here as a newbie as most teachers recommend this shop. I did a lot of shopping here as a student and was lucky enough to get this job after graduating. I even helped my colleague get a job here, and she was also a former SSU art student. ”

Rileystreet warehouse worker Dave Lindgren described the staff happy to assist SSU art students. “We try to help as best we can. We’re all excited to help students who are just starting out on college-level arts courses, ”said Lindgren.

According to Lexi Geren, a fourth year art student, “Rileystreet is the most highly recommended and recommended art store for SSU students. I usually go there at least once a semester and I like how easy it is to find everything. “

Jenna Zager, fourth year Studio Art Minor, shared why Rileystreet is her favorite place for art supplies. “I usually use paints, plates and brushes. I really like the wide range of materials and I always feel comfortable going to Rileystreet for projects in different media. The prices are pretty good too and there is usually a sale on top of the student discount, ”said Zager.

Art teachers contact Rileystreet and use the shop as a venue to promote and hold art classes for the public. The shop also supports local artists through in-store promotional flyers showcasing various art galleries and art events.

Rileystreet sells handcrafted pieces by local artists such as postcards and face masks. The store also accepts art donations from the public and is decorated with the donated items.

Rileystreet has one location in Santa Rosa and another location in San Rafael. Visit one of their locations to purchase supplies or visit for more information.
