The artist’s work grew out of a year of quiet moments


Soft Monuments, paintings and ceramic sculptures by artist Kevin Sloan, will open on July 10th at K Contemporary, 1412 Wazee St., Denver, with a celebration from 5pm to 9pm. The exhibition runs until August 14th. The new work focuses on curiosity and awe of nature and is an extension of Sloan’s recent “Radiant Season” exhibition at the Denver Botanic Gardens, which focuses on natural environments, particularly plants. Denver Radio League

Denver Radio League members will set up an amateur radio station on Amateur Radio Field Day on June 26th, from 12pm to 5pm on the lawn of Bemis Library, 6014 S. Datura St., Littleton. They show the equipment and talk about using it for fun or in an emergency. This group of radio amateurs will contact others without the help of power generators, cell phones or the internet! The American Radio Relay League has hosted Field Day every June since 1933 with more than 40,000 radio amateurs across North America who sometimes serve their communities in an emergency.

Remembering the Depot Art Gallery

The Littleton Fine Art Guild’s 58th Anniversary Show will be held at the Depot Art Gallery, 2069 W. Powers Ave., Littleton (north of the courthouse). Jay Wangsai’s painting “Cactus. Awarded the Best of Show Band in Bloom ”with Loren Gilbert’s photo“ Gracies in the Mist ”in second place and Deanne Sander’s cheerful painting“ Large Poppies ”in third place. Located in a historic Santa Fe depot, this gallery is now open Wednesday through Sunday 11am to 4pm and is a local treasure with new exhibits regularly. Dinner theater

Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, at 4747 Marketplace Drive in Johnstown, is a small ride but has dinner and a musical, a very fun way to spend an evening – or a Saturday afternoon! High Line Channel

Volunteers are being sought from across the area to maintain the trail, remove weeds, plant new trees, etc. along the High Line Canal. An online visit to will provide information on where and when activities are scheduled for members of the Canal Conservation Corps along the 71 miles of the canal … commitment for an hour or more … dates and activities are listed. Of course, you also enjoy walking this trail wherever you want to approach it. Maps are available.

Birds in Photography

Birds in Art: Learning From Their Perspective is open at the PACE Center Art Gallery, 20000 Pikes Peak Ave., Parker. Open from Monday to Saturday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 90 minutes before the start of the performance. Works mainly by local photographers., 303-805-6800.

“Suddenly Seymour”

The musical “Little Shop of Horrors” by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken plays from June 25th to July 18th at the PACE Center, 20000 Pikes Peak Ave., Parker. Meek Seymour Krelborn stumbles upon a new breed of plant, which he names Audrey II after his crush for colleague. Western welcome week

The registration deadline for the Western Welcome Week Arts and Craft Fair is July 20th, which will take place in downtown Littleton on August 21st. There will be space for 65 vendors.
