The Port Arthur native receives the Southern Soul Male Artist of the Year Award – Port Arthur News

A Lafayette musician from Port Arthur won a grand prize just a few weeks ago.

Audrin Windon, who goes by the stage name Audio-Yo, was named Southern Soul Male Artist of the Year by Zydeco Blues and Trail Riders. His award was presented on December 4th at a ceremony at the University of Houston.

He was even selected to perform the Cupid Shuffle in homage to Cupid, also known as Bryson Bernard, at the awards ceremony.

A 2004 graduate of Memorial High School, Audio-Yo sang in the choir and began making decisions about focusing on music after graduating, he said.

The video for his song “Who You Are” was shot in Atlanta, Georgia, with help from Port Arthur’s Hilton Kelley, and has done well, he said. His soft vocals bring the soul flair to the track.

And “Can’t Nobody” with Tucka has more than 552,000 views on YouTube.

“I’m doing very well,” said Audio-Yo. “God is always good.”

Audi-Yo said that his songs are also doing well in the charts in Canada and Africa.

“I’m very excited to represent the Golden Triangle,” he said.

But the musician didn’t come to this place overnight.

“I’ve had a lot of practice, countless hours of singing lessons and practice,” he said. “I sang in middle school and was all-region, and also in high school. I come from a church background, Zion Hill Baptist Church, and that has helped me. “

The music is also played by Audi-Yo in Houston.

“They love me in Houston,” he said of Majic 102.1.

But in the busy year ahead, he looks forward to returning home.

“I can’t come home and do a concert since I have my own day now,” he said.

Last year, Port Arthur Mayor Thurman Bartie declared June 19, 2020 Audrin “Audio-Yo” Windon Day in the city.

The proclamation speaks of Audio-Yo’s nominations for awards in Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Africa and the United Kingdom. He has made headlines with music icons Lyfe Jennings, Avery Sunshine, Avant, Doug E. Fresh, Will Downing and many other artists.

Mayor Bartie said he watched the young man in his formative years and grew into an artist.

“I think his musical skills are a gift from God,” said Bartie, adding that Audio-Yo’s mother was a singer. “I would say he actually inherited his skills from his mother.”

He promoted his talent, devoted himself to this beautiful art

Has been blessed to be recognized by winning these

Bartie said he was “PA proud” of the musician.

“It just shows that there are some great things coming from Port Arthur and some great people,” said the mayor.

Audi-Yo is already fully booked for about halfway through 2022. On January 29th, he will perform with fellow artists in Montgomery, Alabama; and in June he will be in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for the Southern Soul Getaway with a range of other artists.

In addition, he currently has two albums in streaming.

He has his own record label Yo Turn Music Group and is under contract with Southern Soul Movement.

You can find audio yo on most social media platforms.
