EDMOND – VIBES Edmonds First Thursdays, the monthly open air art walk, will take place on Broadway in downtown Edmond on Thursday for the fifth event of the season.
In August, VIBES will include multiple live demonstrations, visual artists, performing artists, and a VIBES Visa Challenge where entrants will have the chance to win a prize package worth more than $ 2,000.
The evening features a live mural by Shakurah Maynard on the corner of Broadway and Hurd and a pottery demonstration south of Edmond Railyard with artist Erin Harris and friends throwing clay for the audience.
Special appearances during VIBES include Kyle Dillingham (on the southwest corner of Broadway and Hurd), Jane Mays & The Minnie Funk Band (on stage The Edmond Railyard Patio), A Perfect Body Band (southwest corner of Main and Broadway) and Alissa Aerial (northwest corner of Broadway and Campbell). There will also be more artists performing at the August event than at previous VIBES.
More than 40 visual artists will set up shop throughout downtown Edmond, showing off their craft and selling their work. First-time VIBES attendees include David Billen, Angel Jaramillo, Dan Reyna and Jordan Tacker, as well as returning artists Lori Black, Trayson Conner, David Padgett, Jim Renicek and many more.
As part of the VIBES Visa Challenge, participants can pick up a VIBES Visa Task Card from participating companies in the city center and complete their chosen tasks. Each completed task corresponds to an entry in the drawing. Tasks include visiting visual artists and companies, buying from a VIBES company or artist, and posting on social media using the hashtag #VIBESVISA. The prize package includes gift vouchers for numerous shops in the city center and original works of art by more than 10 artists. The VIBES Visa Challenge is presented by Edmond Life & Leisure.
VIBES Edmond’s First Thursdays is a program by the Edmond Fine Arts Institute, Edmond’s not-for-profit community arts organization, offering year-round visual and performing arts courses for children and adults and the Art in Schools third and fourth grade programs for high school students the Edmond Public School offers.
