Mushrooms, angel’s trumpets, handcuffs and skulls combine with other flora and fauna to present a vibrant depiction in bold colors on metallic papers.

bad Romance is a portal to the world of fantasy,” explains Brightside. “Each pretty, poisonous thing is a beautiful microcosm in itself, rich in symbolism. The artwork, mural, oracle cards and coloring book are designed to inspire. They encourage others to see beyond reality.”

Brightside has a narrow focus on illustrating the retelling of fables and moralistic stories. The Magic Box exhibition was an opportunity to explain the meaning behind the symbolism and metaphors in the artwork. She approached this by creating an Oracle deck and coloring guide set that worked hand-in-hand with the artwork on the show.

Another example of the symbolism in Brightside’s work is Lauren Miller’s Modern Art Services (MAS) commission in 2021 to create original artwork for the skylights in the state-of-the-art MRI rooms at the new City of Hope, Orange County Cancer Center.

Brightside has created a radically imaginative project designed to soothe the patient and distract them from their reality. A reality with many possibilities that can be scary. The intention was for the patient to occupy his mind for a second by concentrating on the dreamscapes and thus make time pass a little more comfortably.

“It was a great pleasure working with Katie on the skylights for the City of Hope. Designed with the patient in mind, the artwork features soft watercolored images of flowers, butterflies, koi fish and hummingbirds to convey a sense of visual movement while providing a beautiful distraction to help patients focus during treatment relax.” states Lauren Miller (MAS).

The Digs Collection is a public-access distribution line for private commissions, with wallcoverings starting at $950 per panel.

The goal was to create a range of ready-made murals and large-scale artworks that redefine wallpaper.

The Digs Collection has embraced the original motto “home is where your toothbrush is”, reminding us that “home” is an ever-evolving concept. The Digs Collectiontherefore reflects this metamorphic concept as a tangible work of art in your home or personal sanctuary so that you can wake up each day as a new butterfly and begin another day of transformation. The philosophy is to create a home with aspirations, either who you are or who you aspire to become. It’s more than just a work of art; It’s a moral to live by.
