When Todd McFarlane drew the turtles and the flaming carrot at auction

Bob Burden is the creator of Flaming carrot comics and its secession The Mystery Men – the latter were transformed into a carrotless film with a few decades ago Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Geoffrey Rush, Eddie Izzard, and more. It was a strange movie, but not as strange as the comic they came from, which had a Dadaist approach to history, structure, and character. And jumping from one publisher to another and teaming up more often than you could possibly explain with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And a moment in 1991 when I combined the Flaming Carrot, the Turtles and a cover of Todd McFarlane. Back when comics only had one cover.

Bob Burden’s Flaming Carrot first appeared in Visions # 1, a comic book published in 1979 at the Atlanta Fantasy Fair as the world’s first surrealist superhero, tells the stories of “the other adventures of the strangest man alive.” Bob Burden pioneered an early 1980s comic book movement known as “New Wave” that included Cerebus and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Over the years, Flaming Carrot has been published by Aardvark-Vanaheim, Renegade Press, Dark Horse and Image and has made guest appearances and cameos in both Cerebus and TMNT. And somehow they managed to snag Todd McFarlane for this cover when he was big up on Spider-Man and was just about to put out spawn and image comics. We’re not entirely sure how … but it is being auctioned today by Heritage Auctions in a CGC 9.8 condition. which is much, much better than my own copy …
